How to connect the Fundan database to Claude

Once connected, you write to Claude in plain language and it searches the database for open grants, investors and business funding in Central Asia. You do this once, in about five minutes.

What "connecting" means, in plain words. It is like plugging a cable into a socket: Claude gets access to our database. Technically this is called MCP, a standard way to connect AI to services. You do not need to know more. The steps follow.

Option 1. Claude on the web or the desktop app

Open settings

In Claude, click your name at the bottom left. In the menu that opens, choose Settings. On the left, choose Connectors.

Click "Add custom connector"

A window called Add custom connector opens. We fill it in from top to bottom.

Enter the name and the address

Name: type Fundan
URL: type https://fundan.cc/mcp

Authentication: change nothing

No sign-in should already be selected (a small Detected label sits next to it). A yellow warning below says that "anyone with the server URL can use this connector". That is fine: the free part of the database is open to everyone. You do not need to enter anything.

Request headers: leave empty

That is for free access. If you have a full-access code, do one of two things (details in the "Full access" section below):

in the URL field from step 3 type https://fundan.cc/mcp/YOUR_CODE, or
in Request headers add one line: name Authorization, value Bearer YOUR_CODE.

Click "Add"

The window closes and a row called fundan appears in your list of connectors.

Let Claude read the database without extra prompts

Open fundan in the list. Find the Read-only tools row (the number 4 is next to it). On its right is a button Needs approval. Click it and choose Always allow. These functions only read the database and change nothing, so it is safe to allow them. Otherwise Claude asks for permission on every search.

Check that it works

Open a new chat and ask: Which grants for NGOs have a deadline this week? Claude will look into the Fundan database and show a list. If the answer names programs and dates, you are connected.

Option 2. Claude Code

If you use Claude Code (Claude in the terminal), enter these two commands one after the other:

For full access, set the environment variable FUNDAN_CODE to your code.
